Third Grade Expectations

This year I feel will be one of the biggest adjustments in your child’s education career.  My expectation for all third graders is that they will leave my classroom more responsible, independent, respectful, and passionate about learning.

From the first day of school we discuss what a responsible third grader looks like.  A responsible third grader should remember to bring in all completed homework assignments and materials.  A responsible third grader asks questions through out the day and takes an active part in his or her learning.  I encourage students to ask questions and ask for help and to not be afraid to speak up when they don’t understand.  There is so much information that your child will learn this year, that it is critical that he or she pays attention throughout the day.

One of the goals for your child is to become more independent.  This means, when possible, completing assignments on his or her own, but also being responsible enough to ask for help when something is confusing.

I would also like to see all students be respectful to everyone.  From time to time, we will have lessons that require students to work together and discuss topics.  It is essential that students be respectful to each other.  We will have classroom discussions throughout the year centered around what it means to be respectful (tone of voice, eye contact, sharing responsiblities, etc.)

One of the most important goals for my third grade class is to be passionate about learning.  I want students to understand that everyone has strengths and weakness, but I expect everyone to try his or her best!
